now bear in mind that this feeds just me, sometimes i have it all in one sitting, sometimes i freeze some to cook another day.... u'll just have to judge the amount and adjust for what u need......
Ingredients:
1 cup rice
chicken stock
onion
minced garlic
coles mixed vegies
salt and pepper to taste
butter
Method:
make up chicken stock and cook rice in it using the absorption method.
while that's coming to the boil, chop up the onion. i normally only use about half, but if u like more or less u can adapt it.
add onion to saucepan, along with 1 tsp minced garlic.
once rice has come to the boil, turn it back to the low setting and let it sit for about 10 mins. i normally add a little bit of butter here to prevent it from sticking to the bottom of the saucepan, but it can be left out.
after 10 mins, check on the softness of the rice. if it's almost done, this is the optimal time to add in the coles mixed vegies. i normally add about a cup to the saucepan, but once again, it can be altered to suit your tastes and amount. i like to have a good amount of vegies as it just makes me feel less guilty about not having proper meals more often.
mix the vegies through and let them heat up in the rice. if the rice is a little dry, add more chicken stock or just plain water. not too much, just enough to make it a little wet again.
once the vegies have been warmed through, it can be dished up. season with salt and pepper to taste.
so there ya go. pretty quick, pretty easy, and it's all done in one pot. it's pretty healthy and it tastes bloody good too!
plus i eat it with chopsticks, so it's also fun. and even Jawsome has commented that it smells good. so that's something i guess..... considering how much he hates vegies.
feel free to take the recipe and alter it to your tastes and throw in extra vegies that aren't in the mix. maybe even add in chicken or fish. it all depends on what u like.
have fun cooking!!

happy australia day-boxing day........
lol running joke with myself and jawsome. don't even ask.....
well the weekend passed in a bit of a blur. there was a workmate's belated 21st on saturday night. jawsome and i went to a mates first and started drinking with them there, and then we walked to the party cause it was only about 10 houses down.
got there and found out there was free booze. i dived in and nabbed myself a cruiser. and then found myself wandering off and chatting to people. i only do that when i'm drunk. lately i've just been really shy. it's weird.
but i digest...... *lol*
we looked up and these huge clouds started rolling over us really quickly, so there was a scurry to get tarps set up over the hired music gear. we got it up just in time. it came bucketing down. the tarps got weighed down with rain, i got soaked. laughing the whole time of course.
someone set up a spare tarp in the vacant lot next door, and they put morning fresh on it. of course jawsome had to have a go. he's now sporting a rather impressive grass burn on his hip.
after a while we decided to get some kfc. then jawsome wanted to go home and sleep cause he was working the next day. the rest of us got dropped back at the mates place to get more booze. as we stepped out of the car, i felt a slight pain in my ankle. then i realised i was on the ground. in a puddle....... in slight pain, but giggling my head off once i realised where i was sitting.
one of our mates went to bed so it was just 2 of us left. never thought i'd be the last one standing out of seasoned drinkers......
we staggered back to the party and sat some more and chatted to people. then we got bored and went back to sleep.
then sunday i gave the dark twin a manual driving lesson just around nabs. she was really really nervous, but still did well. she can drive, she just has to practice the starting and stopping and get used to using a clutch.
but if there was an emergency, she can now drive a manual. yaaaaaaay!!!!!
she was just happy that i didn't yell or get mad at her. i think i made her feel pretty much at ease. i even stepped out of the car and made her do it without me being in there with her. she even tried a 3 point turn on her own. took her a while but she did it.
we ended up taking light twin and their mum for a drive to maccas for lunch. there was a slight hiccup at a roundabout and she started to get flustered, but now she knows she can do it.
and yesterday.... we were back at our mates place and their nephew was there. he's such a cutie. so that's what i'll call him.
we took Cutie to the little beach at the end of our street and he had fun running around for a couple of hours. we each took turns babysitting him. jawsome and i took him for a walk while we went to check out canoe and kayak hire prices for closer to my birthday.
Cutie also became very well aquainted with a cute pup that was sniffing around near us.
after a while though, little Cutie started to fall asleep so we all went home and put him to bed while we drank some more and watched tv. and that was pretty much it for the rest of the night. i went to bed early cause i was tired and my ankle was still giving me hell. even now i have it strapped up cause it hurts whenever i walk on it.
so right now i'm sitting at the desk, my foot rested on the bed, listening to my various disney cd's. yeh.... i'm a freak. lol.
i also have my special ricey thing that i made. it tastes so good and is really easy to make too. i have to make it just for me cause it's healthy so of course that means jawsome won't eat it. i'll post the recipe in a fresh blog, so it's easier to find if anyone wants to try it.
but yeah that's about all i did on my weekend. and i got the battle scares to prove it. lol. yay! my first drinking-related mishap!! i'm all grown up!
oh and i also took skin off my knee......
I'M AWESOME!!!!

seems telstra's screwing a few people over...
must run in the family.
so my first hiptop started playing up on me. turning itself off after the slightest tap, losing all my messages and sometimes emails too.
so in november last year, i went in to the telstra shop with Mutha while we were out shoppinng. i arranged to get a new phone, but pay it off per month, same as my normal payments at the time. he set it all up and said that was fine and wouldn't be a problem. so off i skipped with a brand new shiny and WORKING hiptop.
so imagine my horror when in december, my bill arrived. $400+!! WTF?! so a few days after, i sat on the phone and made myself comfortable. made it through to someone who told me i was speaking to the wrong department, but they put me through to (apparently) the right one. someone picked up and took my information and listened while i told my story and they said that it was supposed to be looked after by another department (deja vu??) so they transferred me over. or so they thought. after half an hour of being on hold and going round in circles, i was cut off completely.
i uttered some rather harsh words and tried again. this time i eventually got put through to someone nambed gilbert. and yes, that's his name. i'm not hiding it. he was indian. so his real name probably wasn't even gilbert. but he listened to me ranting and starting to get flustered as this was the 5th time i'd had to tell someone my story. he said for me to sit tight and he'd have a look for me. and then nothing. no hold tone, no dial tone, no background noise. nothing. i sat and waited for more than 15 minutes, just in case that section didn't have hold music. but no. there was nothing.
so after the new year i shuffled off to the local telsra shop and told them of my issue. the store manager came and assisted straight away. they photocopied my bill and took notes and said they would try to get it arranged for me and they would give me a call. ok fine.
2 weeks later, i still hadn't received a call. so last week i went back in to remind the staff that my problem still existed (i had received another bill by that stage and the charge was still on it!). the guy i spoke to remembered "something being mentioned" - his words - about my case. he wrote a note for the store manager to find out some details, and once again i was promised a phone call. still nothing.
so today i tried to call the telstra shop at indro to get it sorted, as they're the store who arranged it in the first place. and all i got was the answering service. and they're not even closed yet!! fucktards.
so as soon as all this is sorted, looks like i shall be looking for another service provider. optus is looking pretty attractive right now. i might just go for a prepaid. i'm sick of the whole telstra bullshit already. i want to break something.
i made an official complaint to telstra about the handling of the whole thing. and i threatened to contact the ombudsman. cause there is no way in hell that i'm paying that $400 when i did NOT want my contract cancelled. and i told the telstra fella that when he was doing it all up. i told him that all i wanted was a new phone because my other one was faulty.
if it's not sorted soon, i may just have to take drastic action and threaten legal action. this is doing my head in. it's not good for my mental health or my physical health. i'm stressing ridiculously because my credit rating is going to go to shit after all this is over.
fuck telstra.
fuck them in their stupid asses.

welcome to 2009!
so i've had this bloggy thing for about a year now. wow, how time does fly.
i hope all my readers had a wonderful new years. mine was alright. coulda been better, but also coulda been waaaaaay worse.
so i started the year with no income. i haven't worked since christmas eve, and as a result, i'm now in negotiations with centrelink to become a bum. still waiting on some paperwork from coles.
also, just thought i'd share this cause i thought it was funny, if not a little annoying....
went out the other morning to an appointment, and i noticed the fuel flap on the Volvo was open. so i turned the Cino around and pulled up right next to it and had a look. and of course, the fuel cap was missing. cause that's what everybody steals when they pass a car on the street without the lockable fuel flap. when i came home from my appointment i turned the Volvo on and checked the fuel gauge. they also managed to steal about a quarter of a tank of fuel. which i didn't really care all that much about cause i had a full tank from when we came back fom camping.
The Volvo had been out at Nabiac since we got back. it was only here for 2 nights before that happened. Jawsome bought me a lockable fuel cap yesterday. ha! i win!
been watching the news this morning (i remember when i thought the news was boring!!) and i've been listening to the reports of the american plane that landed in the river after a flock of geese flew into the engines.....
there was a comment on one news report that the FBI had said they don't believe there was any terrorist activity around it. but what they DON'T know is that the geese were actually trained as kimikaze pilots by al-quaeda. *grins like a moron*
so what did everyone get for christmas?? i got a decent haul this year!! i'm stoked!

i got a cheaper version of a flavourwave oven (it cooks most of the stuff that we eat so i'm happy!)
i got an electric mixer! very helpful for my other gifts....
a BOX of cupcake recipes and a cupcake kit with a silicone tray, recipe book and piping bag and tips...
hannah montana poster...
the knight's tale dvd... i was actually looking for a copy a while ago but didn't find one so i just left it. good thing i did!
i bought myself a board game. it's called tappayatung. it's like scene it, but just with quotes, songs and movie lines and there's no dvd....
i got various choccies and stuff
and one of the twins bought me this gorgeous little bracelet while she was at schoolies.
ooh! and i got a pandora bracelet too. it has a red glass charm and a frog (which Jawsome all chose for me when he bought it) and i got myself a princess crown charm a week later.
Sunny bought me an early gift. the Guitar Hero set for my DS. and the bag for it too. even Jawsome likes it.
the other day we went out on the boat with some mates to one of the islands around here adn had a bbq lunch. it was nice. a little sandy, but still nice. while we were cooking, i heard people making a fuss and i looked up and saw 3 dolphins just being lazy and swimming around and heading back out to sea. i managed to get a picture....

i could only just see them if i zoomed into the pic cause i had to use my hiptop. i left my proper camera at home. next time i go, i'm gonna remember to bring it cause that's twice now we've spotted dolphins when we're on the water.
well that's about all i can think of for now. the next time i update might be when we move. not certain what's going to happen yet. we might go to newy. more jobs there. which would be good.
before i go, i thought i'd share some more piccies of the prettyfulness that is forster.

enjoy!!!

the entrance into the main building is on the left, near the post, and the entrance to the schoolroom is just behind the Red Leaders car.
This is the dam when it was about 3/4 finished. yeah i'm the fatty sitting on the submerged rock.

i believe this was on the first day. they didn't mess around and got straight into the damn-building process.

possibly the best shot of the house

house and convoy, taken near the front gate.
time for a catch-up? get comfy, it's big.
i figure it's been over a month since my last post. and since the laptop's been fixed (again) i really have no excuse.
u may wonder what i've been up to in the past month.
the main things i've done include a trip up to brisbane to visit the family, Jawsome bought a car while we were up there. there was a heap of running around to go with that, but eventually (after an extra day) it was finished and we could drive it back home.
we left brissie about 4pm. got back home at about 1.30/2am. and then i had to work 9-6 that day.
yeah i was so wrecked. took me a week to catch up on sleep.
the next weekend, the Teen arrived. i picked up the Dark Twin (one of Jawsome's sisters) and we headed off to the airport, which is a good 2 hr drive away. luckily i got to take the new car, or as we like to call it, Da Supra. with emphasis on "Da".
the Teen looked as if she was going to fall asleep on the way home. which is funny cause there's not much room in the back of Da Supra. and now that i think of it, Jawsome has named Da Supra. i can't exactly remember what he's called it. it's some old fashioned name. him and the Housemate have a list of really awesome old people names. like mavis, daisy, pearl, gertrude, etc.
yeah, they have a whole list. it's funny some of the ones they come up with. but he's called Da Supra one of those names.
anyway, back to my story......
so the Teen arrived on the saturday, that afternoon we got dragged off to play with Jawsome's family. he doesn't get to see them all very often, so it was an early christmas. and even Teen and myself got a little something. she got licorice and i got a jar of bo-peeps. i was set. Teen learned how to peel prawns. she was quite pleased with herself. and the family got her to take the family happy snaps. which i had to be in. i hate photos.
on the tuesday, we went off to Jawsome's parent's place to await the arrival of Jawsome and one of his mates. we left Da Supra at the parents and all piled into my Shitbox and started on our merry journey to Moonin Brook.
we met up with a motley crew of Jawsome's mates who now reside in newcastle. they had brought a total of 3 cars, making us now a 4 car convoy. many jokes were cracked about big rigs and the red leader.
to get to MB, we had to go over the barrington tops. in winter, it snows. and i found out after we had returned, that it had in fact snowed the weekend before we set out. which is odd cause it was late november at this stage.
i'll be able to post some pics i took along the way once i finish this post.
Jawsome took over the driving from glouster as apparently it was mostly dirt, and very steep. and he had been going to MB since he was 13.
it was a fairly hard drive. we had to stop part way to let out brakes cool down. and it wasn't just us. the whole convoy had hot brakes. so we stopped for about 5 mins and just had a big laugh about everything and cracked some more big rig jokes. there were 5 guys and 4 girls at this stage. so go figure.....
once we got over the first set of hills it was smooth sailing for a while. then the car in front of us stopped, his engine was getting too hot. the guy behind us drove like a grannie so it was up to us to chase down the first car (we shall call him Red Leader, purely because he was, in fact, driving a red VW golf, and he was in front....) and told him of the situation. it took us about 5 mins to catch up to him. and considering it was all uphill and we were in my shitbox, it was a pretty impressive effort. and my engine temp mever got hotter than halfway. take that 6cyl ford!!!
we stopped and chatted with Red Leader for probably about 10/15mins, and then the others caught up to us, and we set off on our final leg of the journey.
there were so many shenanigans on the way that i can't even begin to type them. one such shenanigan involved Jawsome's mate travelling with us (we'll call him Sasquatch cause he's bloody tall!!!) almost going through the back of my seat cause Jawsome was being silly. we had to dodge soooo many potholes that it ended up being a game. but we did have Red Leader in front, going through all the potholes, so we just kept an eye on him and dodged the ones he hit.
when we finally got to MB, we unpacked the cars, chose our rooms and put the food and drinks in the fridge.
there were 3 rooms in the main house, with a double bed and a single in each, and the outside room had about 10 bunks.
we were told it was a old schoolhouse. Teen and i stood inside the old schoolroom (with the bunks) and we both revealed later that we both had a weird feeling about that particular place. the main house felt fine, but the bunkroom jsut felt odd. once Teen posted pictures of it on her myspace, she got a message from my best mate, Glamourcide. turns out she'd had a dream about that place (she's never been outside QLD) and she was in the bunk room and it felt bad and she woke up in a cold sweat. it's pretty freaky when that shit happens. cause i had a dream where something happened to her but she was pregnant at the time. turns out she was, but hadn't told anybody. lol. she was pretty spooked when i told her.
but anyway........
within half an hour of arriving, the boys set off to work. about 100m from the main house is the brook itself. and over previous years, the kids had started to build a dam everytime they went.
this time though, there were about 6 people working on it. and by the 2nd day, they had made it to the middle. they've never managed to do that before. i even helped. it was bloody cold! and the rocks were heavy, but it was still fun.
the entire time there pretty much revolved around the dam. Red Leader was determined to finish it. He even wanted it higher. maybe in the future we'll be about to get more people, cause the place sleeps about 20, so we should be able to get it all finished.
some other things that we did included playing (or watching) the james bond monopoly. everyone had started drinking before they started playing so there were lengthy debates about stupid things, and amalgamations that weren't legal and things of that nature.
also, i managed to convince the Teen to take my car for a bit of a spin. we didn't get to go very fast, we didn't get out of first gear i don't think. but she had to reverse and she went quite well. only stalled once. and that was when we stopped. she just didn't have the clutch in far enough. but she still did well.
i forgot to mention that while we were out there, we had no phone signal, and there was no tv.
Red Leader brought his computer (not a laptop, his WHOLE computer) so we at least had music.
one of the days, we took a trip in to scone to pick up some other supplies. that was an alright drive. it's about 50 kms to scone from MB.
Red Leader and a few of the others decided to stay an extra day, but a the Teen had to fly home on the friday, we left on the thursday. Sasquatch came with us, as he lives not far from us. on the way back up the hill, there was a snake in the middle of the road so we stopped. Sasquatch jumped out for a closer inspection. the snake decided to warn him not to come any closer, and as Sasquatch turned to leave, it raised up and started swaying like it wanted to strike him. we called out and Sasquatch looked behind him and decided not to stick around. he scurried back to the car and the snake slithered off. we were informed that it was a king brown.
there was much giggling on the way back over the tops, as this time we didn't have Red Leader to find all the potholes for us. and with Jawsome driving, we of course managed to find almost every single one onteh way down. it was fun though. and it felt like he fixed my wheel alignment. lol.
once we got to the peak, it became very cold and misty. we slowed down a little to look at the scenery. i joked that i half expected a small dinosaur to come crashing out of the bushes beside us. it really did look very eerie.
we got to the last turnoff on the dirt road section. i nodded at Jawsome and motioned for the Teen to hold on tight. Jawsome spun the wheel and we drifted around the corner and spun a bit further then Jawsome expected. but there was heaps of room and no traffic. u could see for miles pretty much. oh, and Sasquatch went sprawling across the backseat. well, as sprawled as someone wearing a seatbelt could do anyway.
the rest of the trip was pretty uneventful. we stopped at the parent's again and gave them their chairs back, then Jawsome took Sasquatch home in Da Supra and Teen and i went on our merry way back home.
early the next morning i had to take Teen back to the airport in newy. another 2 hour drive. i bought her breakfast at HJ's. it was good. i will admit i was bummed to see her go. i wish i had more time to show her more of forster.
lately i've been doing some crafty stuff. i've finally painted 2 of those little canvas squares i bought whilst in adelaide in april. i still have 2 more to go. i know what i'm doing on the next one. it's going to be the southern cross against a navy background. the first one was emily the strange (drawn freehand thankyou very much) and the second was a pink superman logo against a black background. also drawn freehand. w00t for me.
ooh! the other day i was driving to coles to look for something crafty to do, when i stopped for traffic at the maccas roundabout. a motion out the corner of my eye caught my attention.
it was a huntsman. with a legspan the size of my hand. it was on my side mirror.
and of course, being summer, the window was down. it ran side, then onto the mirror, then inside again.
i was tempted to stall teh car and run outside...... but thought that would look stupid, not to mention possibly cause an accident.
i kept my eye on it the whole time and i reached down and grabbed one of my work shoes (knew i kept them in the car for a reason). i waited until it ran to the mirror again, then i smashed that little critter for six. i heard it plop on the median strip, and then i floored it and i will admit to speeding after that. i did 100 in the 60 zone down the road until i got to the coles carpark. where i promptly locked the car and ran inside for a bit.
u know when u get to that stage of terror where u feel like u could either faint, puke, cry or scream??
it was like that. and i was almost crying and feeling rather faint.
it was that big that i could see the hairs on it's legs. gross.
but on a lighter note, yesterday i paid a visit to the Light Twin (Jawsome's other sister) and we had a girlie day, just watching tv and doing some washing and cooking stuff.
we made apple and cinnamon muffins, a rich chocolate fudge, and Jawsome's fave, mini quiches. we wanted to make a double batch, but only had enough for a single. but it's ok. they were eaten within 20 mins of me getting home. but that's only cause Jawsome wasn't home when i got home.
and i believe that pretty much brings me up to date with everything.
except for me going to gladstone next week. i'm looking forward to that. seeing Glamourcide is my main non-family priority, but i'm also gonna catch up with the old school crew and we're gonna have lunch at maccas. cant' wait to see everyone's kiddies.
best part is when i give them back to their parents.... lol
MB pictures to come.....
u may wonder what i've been up to in the past month.
the main things i've done include a trip up to brisbane to visit the family, Jawsome bought a car while we were up there. there was a heap of running around to go with that, but eventually (after an extra day) it was finished and we could drive it back home.
we left brissie about 4pm. got back home at about 1.30/2am. and then i had to work 9-6 that day.
yeah i was so wrecked. took me a week to catch up on sleep.
the next weekend, the Teen arrived. i picked up the Dark Twin (one of Jawsome's sisters) and we headed off to the airport, which is a good 2 hr drive away. luckily i got to take the new car, or as we like to call it, Da Supra. with emphasis on "Da".
the Teen looked as if she was going to fall asleep on the way home. which is funny cause there's not much room in the back of Da Supra. and now that i think of it, Jawsome has named Da Supra. i can't exactly remember what he's called it. it's some old fashioned name. him and the Housemate have a list of really awesome old people names. like mavis, daisy, pearl, gertrude, etc.
yeah, they have a whole list. it's funny some of the ones they come up with. but he's called Da Supra one of those names.
anyway, back to my story......
so the Teen arrived on the saturday, that afternoon we got dragged off to play with Jawsome's family. he doesn't get to see them all very often, so it was an early christmas. and even Teen and myself got a little something. she got licorice and i got a jar of bo-peeps.
